FAMES® Program ‘Creating the workforce of tomorrow and raising the leaders of today: Education, Employment, and Military Service’ at RE 14 Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington. Mr. David “DJ” Johnson served as the FAMES role model speaker for FAMES® stem-after-school program on January18, 2017. Mr. Johnson explained the importance of STEM education to the students as part of successful career planning. He discussed his career path from attending military academies to a distinguished career in military and civil space operations. Mr. Johnson then talked about his current important role as a Vice President at Honeywell. The presentation was followed by Q&A; the students were eager to learn more about USAF careers and how to join military academies.
David “DJ” Johnson is the Vice President & General Manager for Aircraft Engine Components at Honeywell’s Global Aerospace Headquarters. He is responsible for design, development, production and delivery of components for the $700 billion dollar global aviation market which spans military and commercial customers. Prior to this current position, DJ was Vice President and General Manager for Space, Engineering and Operations for Honeywell Technology Solutions, Inc. In this role, he guided a $300 million dollar portfolio providing space network operations, maintenance, development, integration and test, spacecraft operations, and mission assurance for NASA, Department of Defense and foreign countries for missions of national and scientific importance.
FAMES® (www.famesusa.org) is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to mentoring and educating underserved youth in Grades 4-12 in finance, arts, and STEM subjects, mainly during after school and summer. FAMES inspires curiosity and engagement through programs that use hands-on, technology-driven learning models and expert speakers from related fields. By offering relevant and engaging programs FAMES increases opportunities for youth, bolsters their self-confidence, and helps them develop a path for future professional success.
